IMPORTANT


The Sugarloaf Sailing Club is licensed by Melbourne Water to carry out sailing activites on the reservoir. The licence is issued subject to the meeting of strict conditions designed to ensure activities have no impact on water quality or plant and equipment. Visitors enter the Club grounds and sail at the invitation of the Club.

Visitors and Members MUST be aware that:

1. Only registered members, either day or subscrtiption, may use the facilities of the Club, including all on water activities conducted by the Club. A visitor may register as a day member by signing the gate register and paying the required day fee. In doing so they agree to abide by the rules and guidelines of the Club and Melbourne Water including the following:

2. Any activities must not compromise the purpose of the Sugarloaf Reservoir, which is the supply of drinking water of appropriate quality and quantity, and must not otherwise adversely affect the Sugarloaf Reservoir ecology or other passive recreation.

3. Individuals suffering, or who have suffered within the last week, severe symptoms of gastroenteritis, or who have infected wounds, cuts or abrasions must keep well away from the Reservoir Water and must not participate in Sailing Activities

4. Melbourne Water has key assets within the area that is used by the Club including the inlet structures for delivery of water via the Sugarloaf Pipeline and the hydroelectric power plant and its associated high voltage underwater cable .

5. Vehicles are only permitted in the beach area while unloading and retrieving boats and gear. Parking is provided in the areas approximate to the main gate.

6. No vehicles are permitted to drive over any exposed cable. If any cable is visible it must be reported immediatley.

7. Anchors are banned. They are not permitted anywhere, on the water, on the beach, in a boat or in the grounds.

8. Generally, only "off the beach" catamarans and dinghies are allowed. Canoes, Kayaks, Surf Skis, Sailboards, Boats with cabins, Boats over 8m in length, and Boats with cooking facilities are not permitted.

9. Boats with anti-fouling paint which by its nature comprises toxins are banned from entry to the club grounds, beach or water.

10. There are boat exclusion zones on the Reservoir. There are accurate maps available but as a general rule, boats must not sail up the inlets at the lake extremeities, within 200m of the dam wall or the outlet structure or within 50m of any exposed part of the pipeline inlet race.

11. All persons taking part in events conducted by the Club do so at their own risk and responsibility. The Club is not responsible for the seaworthiness of a craft permitted on the water, or for the sufficiency or adequacy of equipment.

12. All persons must wear approved Personal Flotation Devices (PFD's) whilst afloat. The Club recommends that crew take into consideration the danger of hypothermia and wear clothing suitable for the prevailing conditions.

13. Pets are not permitted.

14. Swimming, paddling or bathing is not permitted.

15. Fishing is not permitted.

16. All members/visitors are responsible to ensure that their rubbish is removed from the Club grounds.

17. Fires and BBQs are not permitted, except for those provided by the Club and then only on days not designated as total fire ban days.

18. Toilets are provided so there is no reason for human waste to contaminate the Reservoir or its catchment.

19. Melbourne Water prohibit intoxicating liquor on site. As a consequence, the Club cannot obtain a liquor licence and it is therefore also against Victorian law to consume liquor on the Club pemises.

20. These special conditions of entry are in addition to those listed at the Club gatehouse which all visitors and members are asked to read and acknowledge.
